I have started to post some articles that I provide to puppy owners on the page for what puppy owners should know. I have started with articles regarding spay and neuter. They are at the bottom of the page as links and I encourage you to share these with your vet.
As you may or may not know, my best friend and breeding partner in NY, Judith Koloski, passed away March 16. I have been rather busy trying to get things organized to go to her funeral on Saturday afternoon. Please excause my haste in posting the information and the pictures taken of the puppies this morning. The pups are beautiful and growing like weeds. They give me pause for happiness amidst my sorrow. I will be back next week and will update with video then.

The story is that Stephen is going through a divorce and when deployed, he won’t have a way to take care of her. He is to be deployed in less than a month and his x-wife is not able to take her either. He says that Sydney is so sweet it would kill me to have to put her down. Her name is Sydney and she is a long haired rottie, she is 7 years old, house broken, raised with children (3 years old in the house), spayed, rides in cars well, (more info is available from the owner) contact Stephen Brant cell is 757-803-3625 1206 Peachtree Dr, Suffolk VA 23434 stevenb5656@yahoo.com
One of my friends in NY has fostered a young female rescue that is available for adoption. If you have room in your house and heart for one more or know anyone looking, please see her website for further information. Picture of her below, yes, she has a tail:
The pages for Nelson and Ice have been added to the boys group with pictures and Wilson’s Colonial Rottweiler Club winning picture has been added to his page.
I received my 8-week old male pup from Cathy Rubens, in April 2000. Cathy picked him out for me, and I never questioned her choice. What impressed me, beyond the reputation of her puppies, was her dedication to the pups going to approved homes. Stipulated in the puppy contract, Cathy has the right to decline the sale of a pup if the (person) or home don’t meet her standards. I was thrilled that I was approved!
Initially named ‘Harley,’ my male puppy began a rigorous course of puppy kindergarten & submissive training. He learned quickly, and socialized well with dogs, cats & people. I neutered him at 8-months. When he was 3 yrs old, he became certified as a Pet Therapy Dog. We would visit nursing homes, & residents would pet him & give him treats! At some point in time, we nicknamed him, ‘Bonehead,’ because my husband was impressed by the size of his skull!
Fast forward to 2008. Next month is his 8-yr. physical. Throughout the past 8 yrs., I have never had a bad day with my dog. He is my constant companion, & since I work on a farm, he is with me all day. People are impressed when they see Bonehead. Not only is he gorgeous, he is a lot of fun. I also love the fact that people respect him; just because he is a Rottweiler. I’ve owned many dogs in my life, & Bonehead is the easiest dog. Of course I continue to work with him every day, since he loves ‘having a job.’
My Veterinarian has seen a lot of Rottweilers in his 30-yrs of animal care. ( Including a large emergency clinic in Annapolis, MD). He always says that Bonehead is the nicest Rottie he has ever met. I look forward to every day with my dog, & every evening with him by my side.
Without question, Cathy Rubens has excellent quality pups. Her knowledge of the Rottweiler breed; her experience as a judge; and love of animals; contribute to the highest standards of her Silverhill Rottweilers. I hope to have many more happy years with my Bonehead. When the time comes to get another dog, I would not hesitate to be ‘approved’ by Cathy, again!
and Cathy had Bonehead’s owner pick out a van for her that she is driving today.
Kyra is from the Shaka x Katy litter. We are looking for great things in her future. Tina has already proved herself as a competent handler; see her other dogs when visiting the site. Now we just wait for Kyra to grow up a little to fill those big shoes. Kyra’s webpage
Bob found a cell phone in the drive last night. We started to call those that had been here in the last week, but realized it is a list of 30-40 people. And if this is their phone, how would they answer? So if you are missing a cell phone, please call us.
I doubt it is Paul’s as he never showed up for Christmas dinner although we did have his place set and his present is still here, along with the one he never picked up from his birthday. We did eat his birthday icecream cake, though. It was yummy!
Mr Bo is doing well. His cough is gone and hair is coming in. He loves walks in the woods and sipping from the pond. He is not much at getting in swimming though.
History:
Saturday, Sept 8th, I opened a picture in an email of an old dog in a shelter and a plea to adopt him.
I don’t usually foster because I have my own dogs and don’t want to expose them to what is going around this year. But, he struck a chord as I know old dogs are not easily adopted, and this is not place for an old dog to die.
Sunday I found who to contact, the shelter, etc. They needed my rescue 501 numbers etc. ??? So Gwen Chaney to the rescue of me! She and Mary Statzer arranged his release. Gwen says bright and early, but I think is was predawn Tuesday, she and Mary Statzer went to the South Bend, IN Shelter. There they met and brought back to Indianapolis the “OLD MAN” and his yellow tennis ball. They said he was a dear dog, with a sweet gentle demeanor. But they had not ever seen a dog with such a absence of coat and itching all over.
The next stop was Mary’s and her rescue partner’s vet. Mary’s vet found the dog has scabies (mange), kennel cough, heart worms, ear infection, and a hematoma around the ear area. None of this is obvious from the picture. An hour later Mary was on her way home with itch and kennel cough medication to await the arrival of my best-friend, Bob Russell, who would arrive around midnight, rest the remainder of the night and return to NC with Old Man, whom he named Mr. BoJangles. Thank you Ladies for saving this dog’s life, starting him on medications immediately, and saving Bob hours of driving. There are not many people that would put up a stranger in their homes to get some sleep. Mary slept in her car to give Bo company, as she has an old dog at home that she did not want to expose to the ailments Bo had.
Bob and BoJangles arrived in the early morning hours of Thursday to NC. I had set him up so that he could leave Bo in the barn and shed his clothes and shower immediately. Once the vet opened Thursday morning, BoJangles and I set off for to get a bordetella test. Finally a negative on something! I discussed treatment options given his general health and got some additional pills and medications. Once the kennel cough, mange and ear problems are under control we will work on his other problems and vaccinations.
He continues to have plenty of energy, appetite and willingness to please. He jumps into the Honda and gets into his crate, turns around and lays down like he has always done it this way. Was a perfect gentleman at the vet for blood draws and restraint. He has perfect leash manners and appears to be house broken.
He is so cute, but I must keep him isolated from my other dogs. I would hate to pay 15 x what we have so far to treat the dogs here. He is visited regularly, but anyone there must shower after and have their clothes washed. So we are doing tons of laundry and disposing of any rugs that we use for him. This will only be for a few short months. Right?
Bob spends lots time taking him for walks and playing with him.
Now for some good news! As of Sept 22 BoJangles is no longer coughing, no longer iching and is getting new hair. So for those of you that follow his story, may your hearts sing! Thank you to those who support this little guy, we have much to be thankful for and it is too kind of you to share yourselves with this old man. A special thank you to Mrs. Revera Wayburn for your concerns and help. You are one in a million!
BoJangles still eats like he is starving, and since he is a Rottweiler, likely always will! Bob took a video last evening during play time to share. Now realize that he was taping and throwing the ball! Not bad for a one-man-show.
